Description

Our Client is seeking a Senior Cobol Developer . The scope of work includes:

  • Investigating and resolving issues reported through our ticketing system.

  • Performing data extracts, data rollovers and data batch processing tasks, typically through COBOL routines or SQL statements.

  • Monitoring and resolving failed jobs.

  • Collaborating with business users to better understand their reported issue.

  • Collaborating with other COBOL developers that work predominantly outside MASC’s business hours. Ideally this person will spend a large portion of their time troubleshooting, prioritizing, and collecting the necessary details for the other COBOL developers to be able to implement fixes with few roadblocks, like the role of a team lead.

  • Assist in the interpretation of COBOL procedures to aid in modernization efforts.

  • Amending current support documentation and providing documentation for change requests.


The successful candidate will work 100% remotely and will need to have availability via MS Teams.

The resource must be a Canadian citizen and reside full time in Canada and be able to work Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4;30pm CST.

Skills Cobol SQL DB2 AS400
Type Contract
Experience Required/Mandatory Skills
  • Extensive experience working on an AS400 including OS400 operating system commands.

  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining COBOL code.

  • Extensive experience working with SQL, ideally within DB2 for iSeries.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to investigate and resolve both coding and data issues with minimal guidance.

  • Strong aptitude to understand business rules and requirements.

  • Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong ability to prioritize and organize work with limited oversight.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively.

Nice To Have Skills
  • Experience with x-Analysis.

  • Experience within the insurance and accounting business domains.

  • Experience leading a team.

Location Victoria/Remote
Work Environment 6 months with optional extensions
Hourly Rate Negotiable
