Description Data Analytics Specialist

As a Data Analytics Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming complex data into actionable insights that benefit all Albertans. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative projects that directly impact policy and service delivery across the province.
What You’ll Do:
  • Lead and support strategic data initiatives aligned with Data Strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to understand analytics needs and deliver high-impact data solutions.
  • Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end analytical applications, from data ingestion and modeling to user-friendly visualizations and dashboards.
  • Build and refine models for prescriptive and predictive analytics, leveraging machine learning, statistical analysis, and AI techniques.
  • Prepare data for analysis, ensuring high quality, privacy, and compliance standards.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and workflows, supporting scalable and efficient analytics processes.
  • Provide expert advice on data modeling, algorithms, and analytical methodologies.
  • Communicate complex data insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including executive briefings.
  • Foster a culture that values data as a strategic asset, mentoring team members and promoting best practices.
What You Bring:

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Proficiency in statistical and programming languages such as R, Python, and SQL.
  • Experience developing and deploying end-to-end data-driven applications and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data science, data engineering, and analytics techniques, including statistical modeling and machine learning.
  • Ability to prepare data for advanced analysis and model development.
  • Knowledge of data mining, statistical techniques, and complex modeling approaches.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with data sharing, de-identification, metadata management, and data ethics.
  • Skills in integrating data from diverse sources and domains.
  • Client engagement experience, including explaining technical principles clearly.
  • Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow design.
  • Expertise with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or cloud platforms such as Azure or Snowflake.
  • Experience working with large government datasets and understanding of data governance best practices.
  • Strong visualization skills with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data analytics, data science, or related roles, ideally within government or large organizations.
Other Requirements:
  • Must operate from within Canada; remote work is supported but onsite meetings may occur.
  • Availability for up to four onsite meetings per year, largely for strategic and technical discussions.
  • Own equipment and reliable internet connection.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing project needs and collaborate across teams.
