Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics to support regulatory and operational insights.
- Create, optimize, and maintain robust data models using DAX and Power Query M for enterprise-wide reporting.
- Integrate Power BI solutions with Azure data sources and on-premises databases for seamless data flow.
- Collaborate closely with business users, data architects, and data engineers to manage data pipelines and semantic models.
- Translate business requirements into effective BI solutions, focusing on accuracy, efficiency, and clarity.
- Enable end-user adoption through training, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Handle data security, access controls, and performance tuning within Power BI.
- Conduct trend analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics to identify business opportunities.
- Leverage AI capabilities within Power BI to automate data exploration and insight generation.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science or a related field.
- Proven hands-on experience translating business needs into analytical solutions with Power BI.
- Strong expertise in designing, developing, and optimizing Power BI dashboards and data models.
- Advanced skills in DAX, Power Query M, and SQL for data transformations and analysis.
- Experience integrating Power BI with Azure and managing data security features like row-level security.
- Solid understanding of large-scale data analysis including trend, forecast, and predictive analytics.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of storytelling with data and presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting within Canada.
Nice to Haves
- Familiarity with source code control tools such as GitHub.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools like Power BI Copilot or Fabric to accelerate analytics workflows.
- Knowledge of Databricks Medallion Architecture and enterprise data product development.
- Experience working with datasets, particularly in environmental, transportation, or licensing sectors.
- Background in building data products using Synapse Analytics.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in Power BI development and data analysis.
Other Requirements
- Own equipment capable of supporting remote work, including Azure Virtual Desktop compatibility.
- Ability to participate in occasional meetings at government offices in Edmonton, Alberta (approximately 3-4 times per year).
- Work is remote, with occasional on-demand engagements; travel expenses are not covered.
