Machine Learning Specialist (Remote, Canada Based)
Overview
Our Client is seeking a Machine Learning Specialist to design and deliver analytical data products that turn complex, cross-domain data into actionable insights. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, guide when (and when not) to apply ML, and build trustworthy, privacy-aware AI and analytics solutions that can stand up to real-world scrutiny.

- Standard working hours: Monday–Friday, 08:15–16:30 Alberta time
- Meaningful, high-impact work with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders
- Occasional onsite meetings may be required a few times per year (travel not covered)
Responsibilities- Build, train, evaluate, and operationalize ML models for use cases such as anomaly detection, predictive monitoring, and AI-assisted transformation/automation
- Prepare and structure data for prescriptive and predictive modeling, including collection, normalization, cleaning, and feature preparation
- Apply advanced analytics methods (including complex statistical modeling) to solve business and policy challenges
- Translate complex business questions into clear analytical approaches and deliverables
- Produce insights, reports, and analytical outputs that support decision-making and service improvements
- Help teams identify prerequisites for effective ML and provide coaching/mentorship on ML practices
- Select and support ML tools, services, and infrastructure aligned to project needs
- Integrate trained models into applications and contribute to full-stack analytics or AI solutions when required
- Develop mechanisms for auditing, accountability, and transparency in ML capabilities
- Work within privacy legislation and provide practical guidance on ethical ML implementation
- Document requirements and capture business and technical metadata for ML products
- Provide status updates (weekly/monthly) and escalate issues and risks as needed
- Operate effectively in a multi-vendor/staff environment
Qualifications Required skills and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (equivalencies considered)
- Strong hands-on experience with statistical and programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL
- Proven experience building analytical and quantitative models
- Experience preparing data for predictive and prescriptive modeling
- Solid understanding of multiple data science approaches (including complex statistical modeling)
- Experience applying AI/ML to analytics or data science initiatives
Nice to have (but not required)
- Knowledge of data practices such as data sharing, linkage, de-identification, metadata, data quality, ethics, synthetic data, and data literacy
- Experience combining raw data from multiple sources and domains
- Experience building visualizations and dashboards
- Familiarity with statistical/data mining techniques used for business problem solving
- Experience with large, complex public-sector datasets
- Knowledge of techniques such as k-means and hierarchical clustering, partition trees, and logistic regression
