Job Opportunity
Description Business Development Manager – Oil & Gas
Grande Prairie / Fort St. John

Aplin is pleased to partner with an Alberta-based engineering and manufacturing company specializing in innovative instrumentation, automation, and production optimization solutions for the upstream oil & gas industry. The company works closely with producers to improve production efficiency, reduce operating costs, increase equipment reliability, and optimize field operations.
We are seeking a true hunter based in the Grande Prairie or Fort St. John area who enjoys prospecting, opening doors, building relationships, and winning new business. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven sales professional who wants to take ownership of a large territory and make a measurable impact on revenue and market growth.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Canadian Sales Manager, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and winning new business with upstream oil & gas producers throughout Northwest Alberta and Northeast British Columbia.
While you'll inherit a small portfolio of existing customers, the primary focus will be on new business development — identifying prospects, creating opportunities, developing relationships, and expanding the company's presence across the territory.
You'll be supported by an experienced team of engineers, technologists, and technical specialists and will act as a trusted advisor to operations teams, production personnel, engineers, and corporate decision-makers.
This is primarily a sales and business development role — not a field service position. Dedicated technical and field service teams handle equipment installation, service, and troubleshooting, allowing you to focus on selling and developing customer relationships.

The Territory
The territory includes:
  • Grande Prairie
  • Fort St. John
  • Dawson Creek
  • Grande Cache
  • Rainbow Lake
  • Surrounding production areas
This is a home-office-based position with travel throughout the territory.
Candidates based in Fort St. John will typically be home every evening, while candidates based in Grande Prairie may occasionally require overnight travel into the Fort St. John area.

What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of successful outside sales and business development experience
  • Demonstrated track record of generating new business and growing revenue
  • Strong prospecting, relationship-building, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing a large geographic territory
  • Solid understanding of the oil & gas industry
  • Comfortable spending significant time in the field meeting customers and prospects
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of upstream oil & gas production operations
  • Understanding of producing wells and common operational challenges
  • Existing relationships with producers, operators, production teams, and field personnel
  • Experience selling industrial, mechanical, instrumentation, automation, production, or other technical solutions
  • Technical aptitude and the ability to confidently discuss customer operations and production challenges
What You'll Do
  • Prospect and secure new customers throughout the territory
  • Build long-term relationships with upstream producers and operators
  • Identify and develop new sales opportunities
  • Grow revenue and market share through strategic business development
  • Identify retrofit, standardization, and production optimization opportunities
  • Understand customer operations and identify opportunities where the company's solutions can add value
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to develop customer-focused solutions
  • Manage the sales pipeline and consistently follow up on opportunities
  • Demonstrate measurable business development and revenue-growth achievements
Training & Support
You'll receive comprehensive onboarding and ongoing support. You'll have the technical resources behind you to help develop solutions and support customer conversations, allowing you to focus on building relationships and winning business.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $125,000–$140,000, depending on experience
  • Target total compensation: $175,000–$200,000+
  • Quarterly and annual performance bonus program
  • Company vehicle
  • Cell phone and laptop
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • RRSP/Employee Share Purchase matching programs
  • Employee share ownership opportunities based on performance
