Data Architect (Half Time)
Join a top public sector team modernizing how court data is integrated, governed, and reported. This Our Client is seeking a half time Data Architect role to support a major data integration initiative bringing multiple legacy reporting data marts into an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) with dependent marts and views. You’ll dig into existing structures, profile and map data, define dimensions and facts, and help shape a faster, cleaner, more reusable reporting architecture while balancing real world public sector constraints like privacy legislation and stakeholder needs. Work is primarily remote within Canada, with occasional onsite sessions in Edmonton as requested.

Responsibilities- Review existing reporting data marts and related source structures
- Perform detailed data profiling and document findings that inform design decisions
- Create architecture analysis and risk assessments, including recommendations and mitigation approaches
- Capture, interpret, and implement business rules and translate them into data structures and mart content
- Identify required Dimensions for Facts, and profile tables supporting both
- Produce detailed design and mapping specifications to support implementation
- Develop, test, and refine ETL processes
- Build Power BI reports for testing and validation of selected dimensions
- Execute quality assurance testing for dimensions and facts, and support remediation as needed
- Update source “as is” models to reflect new fact attributes where required
- Stage required data and address minor fixes in delivered data marts
- Contribute to transition planning from current state to ideal future state architecture
- Participate in design reviews and provide guidance to ensure alignment with data architecture strategies and standards
- Share feedback and lessons learned during project close out
Qualifications (Required Skills)- Post secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered, though formal education is strongly preferred)
- Experience working in or with public sector environments, including awareness of constraints and privacy legislation (for example FOIP)
- Proven experience delivering architecture risk assessments and architecture analysis or assessment
- Demonstrated ability to capture and implement business rules and translate them into data mart structures
- Experience determining data mart content, defining data structures, and producing design and mapping specifications
- Ability to work within Canada and attend onsite meetings in Edmonton when requested (approximately 15 percent onsite)
Nice to Have- Training in database administration
- Training in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and or SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Experience with data modeling tools such as PowerDesigner, ERWin, Oracle Designer, SQL Developer Data Modeler, or Visio
- Data warehousing certifications or training (for example TDWI CBIP, CFI BIDA, or Kimball Group data warehouse training)
- Experience with JOIN (Justice Online Information Network) and JIMS (Justice Information Management System) data and judicial process driven business rules
- Experience in or with court environments, including sensitivity to the importance of judicial independence
- Experience working with information management and cybersecurity policies, directives, and guidelines under tight timelines
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non technical stakeholders and influence decisions
- Willingness to complete a Criminal Records Check and Enhanced Security Clearance including a credit check prior to commencement
