Senior Data Architect (Data Architect Senior) — Build the Blueprint for a Modern Justice Data Warehouse Overview
Our Client is seeking a Senior Data Architect to evolve an Enterprise Data Warehouse and its dependent data marts and views, bringing multiple disconnected reporting marts into a single, well-integrated architecture. You’ll dig into existing data marts, profile and map complex datasets, shape dimensional models, and help ensure high-quality, trusted data products that support strategic, operational, and ad hoc reporting. The work is primarily remote, with occasional onsite sessions in Edmonton as needed, and all work must be completed within Canada due to security requirements.

Responsibilities- Review existing reporting data marts and contribute to their redesign into an Enterprise Data Warehouse ecosystem
- Perform detailed data profiling and analysis to understand source structures, quality, and relationships
- Create design and mapping specifications to support implementation and long-term maintainability
- Define Facts and Dimensions, including identifying required Dimensions for Facts and profiling Fact-related tables in detail
- Develop and test ETL processes and stage required data for downstream consumption
- Build Power BI reports for testing and validation of selected Dimensions
- Execute quality assurance testing for Dimensions and Facts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability
- Update as-is data models to support new attributes and evolving requirements
- Address minor fixes in delivered data marts and contribute lessons learned at project close
- Facilitate and manage data architecture artifacts (principles, strategies, models, standards, guidelines, plans)
- Promote reusable modeling practices that reduce redundancy and improve sharing across initiatives
- Identify and document enterprise data requirements, and encourage practices that improve data quality
- Develop and lead transition plans from current-state data to an ideal future state
- Provide architecture guidance, consultancy, and participate in design/architecture reviews to ensure alignment and compliance
- Support broader enterprise architecture activities as needed, including communication of data architecture direction
Qualifications Required (Must Haves)
- Training in structured query languages specific to Microsoft T-SQL and/or Oracle and/or PL/SQL, plus database development
- Cloud computing and Microsoft Azure / Azure Architecture training obtained within the past 5–10 years
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered; formal education strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated experience defining data architecture and using Kimball architecture to develop data marts
- Experience working in or with public-sector environments, including awareness of public-sector constraints and privacy legislation (e.g., FOIP)
- Ability to work within Canada for the duration of the engagement, with availability for onsite meetings in Edmonton when requested
Nice to Have (Beneficial, Not Mandatory)
- Willingness to complete a Criminal Records Check and Enhanced Security Clearance, including a credit check, prior to commencement (and eligibility for additional clearances if required)
- Experience with data modeling/design tools such as PowerDesigner, ERwin, Oracle Designer, SQL Developer Data Modeler, or Microsoft Visio
- Familiarity with JOIN (Justice Online Information Network) and JIMS (Justice Information Management System) data structures and judicial business rules
- Experience working in or with court environments, including awareness of the importance of judicial independence
- Experience with information management and cybersecurity policies, directives, and guidelines within limited timelines
- Strong communication skills—able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and influence decisions
